Why are we doing this event?

The Coast Cultural Alliance (CCA) was formed in 1998 as a non-profit Society (# S-38932) network of arts, cultural and heritage groups and individuals working to enhance the economic vitality of the Sunshine Coast through cultural sector development.

Our mission is to encourage and participate in the development of employment, education and business opportunities for the arts, culture and heritage sectors on the Sunshine Coast. Our organization has a membership of 202 which includes 42 businesses, 39 non-profits and 121 individuals. Cultural tourism has always been an important part of the overall structure of CCA. We have been active participants in the tourism sector through different projects over the years including: Artesia Tours and Malibu Arts Retreat, suncoastarts.com, the monthly Arts and Culture Calendar and the Purple Banner Studio and Gallery Guide which have been published continuously for the last 10 years.
We are happy to announce the creation of the Sunshine Coast Art Crawl to take place on October 23 & 24, 2010, free to all Crawlers. The Sunshine Coast Art Crawl weekend will become an annual event in the ‘off season’ to encourage tourism to our coast during a slower time of year and to create the first opportunity to involve artists, Coast wide, into a single event. It will enable many artists who are unable to be open year-round to take part in a coastal community event for the arts. We will work closely with current groups now producing ‘art strolls, art tours and art waves’ to partner in this event.
A creative community creates a sense of place making where we live special and unique. The Sunshine Coast Art Crawl will encourage and continue the cultural vitality we have on the Coast.
“Those communities that are richest in their artistic traditions are also those that are most progressive in their economic performance and most resilient and secure in their economic structure.” John Kenneth Galbraith
